Is the Holocaust best understood through fiction? That was the theme of a recent revue of Ruth Franklin’s novel, Higher Truth appearing on the Jewish internet journal Tablet. The revue provided a setting for an unlikely week-long exchange between Holocaust denier Michael Santomauro and me. I contacted Michael before submitting this article and he agreed to allow his name to appear but asked, “please reference me as a Holocaust Revisionist -and an amateur one at that.” A degree of humility that likely allowed for our extended discussion.

Jewish surgeon refuses to operate on patient with Nazi tattoo
- A Jewish surgeon at a German hospital walked out of the operating theatre and refused to operate on a patient after spotting he had a swastika tattoo on his arm.
The doctor, who has not been named, refused to perform thyroid surgery on the 36-year-old lorry driver when he saw the tattoo of an imperial eagle perched on top of a swastika, surrounded by laurel wreathes.
Swedish royal family hit by fresh Nazi allegations
Sweden’s royal family has been rocked by a new scandal which has exposed the hidden Nazi past of the Queen’s father, only weeks after its reputation was shattered by lurid disclosures about the king’s secret sex life.
The latest revelations concern Walther Sommerlath, the late father of Sweden’s German-born Queen Silvia. He has been unmasked by an investigative television documentary as a Nazi party member who grew rich during the Second World War running an armaments factory that had been stolen from its Jewish owners.
Russian parliament admits guilt over Polish massacre
In a symbolic admission of guilt, Russia’s parliament has declared that Joseph Stalin ordered his secret police to execute 22,000 Polish army officers and civilians in 1940, in one of the greatest mass murders of the 20th century.

In his role as head of Xbox Live enforcement, Stephen Toulouse gets to answer all kinds of strange questions.
Recently one of those questions was apparently “Can I use a Swastika as my logo in Call of Duty: Black Ops?” When Toulouse responded with the obvious answer (“No, of course you can’t, we’ll ban you.”) he was met with some pushback by people he refers to as “contrarians” and “internet pundits” who decided to educate him on the long and storied history of the swastika as a symbol of good fortune and how just because the Nazis used it, it doesn’t make the symbol itself a bad thing.
