Holocaust denial an absurdity
We wonder if the president of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, understands the word “irony.” He provided a demonstration of it last week.
Ahmadinejad has insisted that the Holocaust, during which an estimated six million Jews were murdered by the Nazis, never happened. In an attempt to back up his claim, he staged a conference in Tehran this week. It was attended by a few dozen pseudo-intellectuals from several countries.
The chief qualification for being invited to the conference seems to have been a record of denying that the Holocaust occurred.
It is difficult for some people to understand that the Nazis, as twisted as many of them were, could have organized a campaign of extermination for an entire people. But there is ample proof — for any reasonable mind — that the Holocaust occurred.
Ahmadinejad himself proved the point that such hatred is possible — and he did so during the Holocaust-deniers’ conference. On Tuesday, he spoke at the conference — and he called for Israel to be “wiped out.”
It is precisely that type of hatred that drove the Nazis — and, yes, their non-Nazi, non-German helpers — to attempt to exterminate the Jews.
Ahmadinejad, then, has managed to help disprove his own point concerning the Holocaust. In the process he reminds us of the virulence of anti-Semitism and the necessity of never forgetting that the Holocaust did occur.
Denying it — or even failing to stand up and denounce others who claim it didn’t happen — gives aid and comfort to those such as Ahmadinejad who would, if they could, mount a massive new campaign of murder.

Webmaster note: This is our response to this editorial:
Your editorial “Holocaust denial an absurdity” is itself filled with absurdities. Rather than producing even a single piece of evidence to support the false claims of mass extermination of Jews in Nazi gas chambers, you say that the Germans could have done it, that Ahmadinejad hates Jews so much that it must be the same as the German hatred of Jews, that Ahmadinejad wants to murder all Jews, therefore Nazi Germany did it. Wow!
Look, you’re excused for not knowing what you’re talking about because really, almost no one cares about the Holocaust anymore. Sure, it’s trotted out every other day or so to make some point or the other, but no one really cares enough to do even the most basic research to see what’s he’s talking about.
Just for grins, you might want to spend a few minutes trying to find a Nazi gas chamber. Or a photo of a Nazi gas chamber. Or plans. Or blueprints. Or a budget for its construction. Or staffing lists. Or the remains of one. Or, for that matter, anything substantive to establish that there ever actually was such a thing as a Nazi gas chamber. Unless you’re mislead by all the false information out there, you’ll soon find that there is no evidence to support claims of mass gassing.
So, in that sense, you are correct: It seems absurd to have to point out that something that never existed, could not have been used to murder millions of human beings without a trace. And yet, there are many — including you — who believe the fantastic stories of non-existent gas chambers. Talk about absurd!
